VOYAGES OF RC! Jacuzzi Boys with the Holy Terrors and unusual guests at Churchill’s Pub (5/12/12)

After hitting 26 cities in their first European Tour, the Jacuzzi Boys triumphantly returned to their hometown of Miami for a very special performance at Churchill’s Pub, the venue that helped shape them into the band they have become. Always a considerate host, Gabriel, the lead singer and guitarist of the Jacuzzi Boys, was excited to share with us that the evening would elicit two surprise guests and to expect the “bizarre and surreal”.

We were also pleased to learn that during their European tour, they sold out both shows in London. After all their success in the States, Gabriel found it unreal that so many people enjoyed their music across the pond. It really is no surprise to us that they would be so beloved by the Europeans and according to Gabriel, it won’t be long before they head back. We also couldn’t wait to hear the three new tunes that
Gabriel promised us for the evening, planned for inclusion in the next album. It’s hard to imagine that there’s another album in the works, when we’re still hooked on Glazin’.

Before Jacuzzi Boys took the stage, we were treated to jugglers, a Mariachi Band and the reunion of the legendary South Florida rock band, The Holy Terrors. The Holy Terrors, formed in South Florida in 1991, took the stage at Churchill’s in Miami for the first time in over 17 years. Their set was tight and harkened back to days of yore. Certainly, surreal and definitely, bizarre!

Finally, Jacuzzi Boys step out. Gabriel requests “sexy” lighting and welcomes the crowd with a warm “Hello Miami!” and “give it up for the fuckin’ clown”. Whipped into a frenzy, the crowd sang along and some even danced on stage. Of course, no JB show would be complete without Jacuzzi Gals, who were out in full force, either on the stage or sitting on it. They sounded tight and battle tested. With each and every song, the crowd grew more and more electrtic. The slide show above captures the essence of the evening and all its merriment. Certainly, it was wonderful to be part of such a special evening.

Take a dash of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, a pinch of White Denim, a smidge of Flaming Lips and sprinkle in some members from Tame Impala, and you get psychedelic Australian rockers, Pond. This band that hails from the Land Down Under has slipped under our radar for entirely way too long. While we have been exposed to them before, it just took a little nudge for us to share their latest release, Bear, Wives, Denim with you. Pond was formed in Perth, Western Australia in 2008 with members Nick Allbrook, Jay Watson and Joseph Ryan. After the success of Tame Impala’s 2010 breakthrough album, Innerspeaker, which shares three members with Pond, the album Beard, Wives, Denim was recorded and later released on March 2nd. Friday, May 18th, the Jacob Jeffries Band from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida is hosting the album release party for their fourth studio album, Tell Me Secrets. The release party will take place at the Gibson Guitar Showroom in Wynwood (Miami). If you haven’t RSVP’d, now would be a good time. Sponsors will include Grey Goose Vodka, Three Olives Vodka, and Pabst Blue Ribbon, so you know their will lots of good spirits to go around! If you like Ben Folds, Wilco, Beck, the Wallflowers, James Taylor, the Jayhawks, Billy Joel, Elvis Costello or the Beatles, you will enjoy Jacob Jeffries Band. This refreshing soulful, indie influenced rock band combines piano-driven tunes with a unique blend of energy and soulful songwriting. Formed in 2006, the band consists of Jacob Jeffries (vocals, piano), Jimmy Powers (electric guitar, backing vocals) and Eric Jackowitz (drums, backing vocals). NEW ARTIST INTRO! Natives – ‘Loose Secrets’

In addition to a few bands we have presented on our site from the 10 in 20: A Lexington Recording Project, we were just introduced to this band, Natives, that was also featured on Paste’s 10 Kentucky Bands You Should Listen to Now . Straight out of Louisville, Natives, a five-piece band comprised of Matt Filip, McKinley Moore, Drew English, Matt Brown and Jason Sparks, bring us noisy, psychedelic garage rock. The band released the five-track album, Loose Secrets, last August via Rad Tantrum Records. The album infuses sounds from ’60s garage rock that is reminiscent of The Stooges and The Velvet Underground. If you like Deer Tick and such, you will love, love, love this band. Austin, TX band, Deep Time, (previously named YellowFever, but required to change their name due to “legal problems”) has captured our attention. The song hittin’ the rounds now is ‘Clouds,’ featured below. Deep Time is a pop/indie rock band that reminds us of Belle and Sebastian. ‘Clouds’ includes full-bodied harmonies and a thick bass that gently caresses your ears. Two other great tracks, ‘Bermuda Triangle’ and ‘If I Never Find My Way,’ were both published under their previous band name, YellowFever. Check out all their tunes below. Enjoy!

Silversun Pickups releases their third album, Neck of the Woods, today, May 8th, via Dangerbird Records. Taking a few cues from other other alt-rock veterans, The Smashing Pumpkins, Silversun Pickups have shown maturity in this latest release. Producer, Jacknife Lee (Bloc Party, Kasabian, R.E.M.) keeps the mid-’90s alive with Neck of the Woods. As The Jacuzzi Boys took on Europe with a 26-city tour, we followed them along through Facebook. Without a doubt, each city embraced one of our favorite hometown bands with gracious, open arms. The Jacuzzi Boys love Miami, but it was time that Europe got a chance to experience the unique garage and punk rock sounds that only they can offer.

As one would expect, they are all pleased to be back home, but have already planned to get back on the proverbial horse in the 305. This weekend, they’ll be in a homecoming performance at Churchill’s Pub in Miami. Along with some special guests, the show will feature classic punk band and Miami legends, the Holy Terrors.
