Then, get a look and listen to a video for ‘That Old Black Hole,’ which isn’t that new, but we felt compelled to share it with you today because it really does showcase the band’s lyrical talents so well. LATE NIGHT APPEARANCES! Dr. Dog on Conan (2/9/12)

February 9, 2012 in late night appearances, Now Stream This!

Team Coco created a safe place for Dr. Dog last night (2/9/12) and for that, we are grateful. In support of their seventh album release, Be the Void, released this past Tuesday, Dr. Dog performed ‘That Old Black Hole’, a track off of Be The Void.  These are psychedelic/folk/indie-influenced rockers that continue to amaze us with their growth. NEW RELEASE TUESDAY! Dr. Dog – Be the Void

February 7, 2012 in New Release Tuesday, Now Stream This!

2010’s Shame, Shame, catapulted Dr. Dog into the national spotlight despite the fact that the band had already put out six albums before that. We saw them in their infancy as a band at Bonnaroo 2007 and it was then we had the highest of hopes for this little band from Philly that could. This psychedelic indie-influenced rock band weaves through folk and Americana in their music. Be the Void, their seventh effort, is released today on Anti-Records and no doubt, Dr. Dog delivers. We were lucky to hear a preview of a few of the new tunes at Orlando Calling 2011 in November. And after listening to the entire album (a few times!), we really believe that Be the Void could be the album that takes them to the next level. So far, every song has fully captured our attention and certainly, our interest. Truly, there is no one song on the album that we can say is quite better than another, but we must point out ‘Lonesome’, ‘How Long Must I Wait’, ‘Vampire’ and ‘Over Here, Over There’ as a few of our favorites.

A few weeks ago, Dr. Dog provided a pre-release streaming of Be the Void exclusively on Team Coco. In our post about the pre-release stream, we also provided a stream of ‘Lonesome’. You can stream the entire album at American Songwriter. Below is a stream that ‘Lonesome’ and ‘That Old Black Hole’ from Be the Void and a few oldies, but goodies.

NOW STREAM THIS! Dr. Dog – Be The Void

January 31, 2012 in News You Can Use, Now Stream This!

A whole week before it’s official release, Dr. Dog is sharing their much anticipated album, Be The Void, with Team Coco. Dr. Dog is a psychedelic rock band from Pennsylvania. Lead vocals are shared between two band members, but all members contribute to the harmonies. Some consider their music “pop-rock” influenced by various bands from the 1960s. Earlier recordings showcase lo-fi sounds mixed with the pop sounds of indie rock bands like Guided by Voices and Pavement. Below, you can stream the first track, ‘Lonesome’ and then, you can stream the entire album, one week before the release, at Team Coco. you can buy it next week on it’s release via Antirecords on February 7th.

VOYAGES OF RC – Orlando Calling 2011 (Day 1, Saturday, 11/12/11)

November 14, 2011 in Voyages of Rock Cousteau

Entrance to Orlando CallingOrlando Calling, the Inaugural year, began Saturday, November 12th at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida. Overall, we thought the festival was well run and quite comfortable. Our only disappointment, that there were not more people attending on Day 1. The lineup was loaded with both national and regional acts covering a variety of genres, from hip-hop to bluegrass. But for most, Saturday’s main stage acts were what counted with the Pixies, The Raconteurs and The Killers (completing the day).

Our day began with sunshine and a healthy dose of everyone’s favorite gypsy punks, Gogol Bordello. Highlights for us include ‘Not a Crime’ and ‘Stop Wearing Purple’. The energy this band emits cannot even be measured and we were up for the task. Here’s a taste of what we saw below.

You may have listened to Iron & Wine’s studio work, but don’t be fooled, as seeing and hearing them live is an entirely different experience. Our own previous exposure to Iron & Wine had never been in a live experience and we can now say with confidence, that if given the opportunity to see this band live again, we would resoundingly say “yes”! Sam Beam makes loving Iron & Wine so easy, as he, backed by a fantastic band, put on a great show at the Authentic Stage.

We made our way back to the main stage, just in time to catch The Avett Brothers. Watching them grow into this mature band has been a treat and seeing them live again was even more enjoyable. The crowd knew every lyric to almost every song. Of course, ‘I And Love And You’ we an audience favorite.

We knew what to expect with the Pixies, as they played Doolittle, in its entireity, track by track. They finished the set with ‘UMAss’, ‘Nimrod’s Son’ and ‘Gigantic.’ For many, this was one of the most anticipated sets of the day. Much gratitude for having the opportunity to see them live again.

On our way to catch Dr. Dog, we stopped by the Authentic Stage to get a quick glipse and listen to O.A.R.

O.A.R.

While the Pixies were the most anticipated experience for this festival, for most festival goers, Dr. Dog was our most anticipated band of the day. This psychedelic rock band has made us reconsider our admiration for other bands over the last few years. Here’s a bit of what we saw.

And, last, but certainly not least for us, The Raconteurs. Yes, we decided to bail on The Killers, but only because we had to get back on the road before their set began. After almost 2 years away, The Raconteurs, a rag tag group of merry men that formed in Detroit, but are based in Nashville, welcomed the audience with their “new band made up with old friends”. The Raconteurs console our souls with their eccentric blues based and southern rock, giving homage to Led Zeppelin, The Who and The Allman Brothers. Our highlights include (EVERY SINGLE SONG!) Some tunes include ‘Top Yourself’, ‘Blue Veins’, ‘Steady As She Goes’ and ‘Old Enough’. At one point, Jack speaks up to say “It’s nice to see you all again,”…..“We don’t get to play too much in Florida. It’s nice.”

Are you ready for The Raconteurs? I said, ARE YOU READY!?
