NEW ARTIST INTRO! Space Between Words – Valley of the Lizard King EP

May 11, 2012 in New Artist Intros, News You Can Use, Now Stream This!

Space Between Words, don’t we all wish for that when the lines of communication begin to break down? Formed in January of 2010, Space Between Words is a soulful southern rock band, with an alternative twist and an edgy 70’s garage bite. Imagine the Doors morphed with The Pixies and that might be what you get with Space Between Words. If you are in South Florida, you can catch these Native Floridians at the Green Room Nightclub with Deaf Poets, The Mirrors & Magic Hat Art Battle, tomorrow, Saturday, May 12th.  Click here for more information about the event and stream the EP, Valley of the Lizard King, below. If you like it, support the band and buy the EP!

NOW STREAM THIS! New Multitudes

March 2, 2012 in New Video Release, News You Can Use, Now Stream This!

Here’s a great opportunity to check out New Multitudes, a new project featuring Jim James (My Morning Jacket, Yim Yames, Monsters of Folk), Jay Farrar (Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo, Gob Iron), Will Johnson (South San Gabriel, Centro-Matic), and Andes Parker (Gob Iron, Varnaline). New Multitudes recorded the album using lyrics from Woodie Guthrie that he did not get the opportunity to use while alive.

Per the press release: Under the invitation of Nora Guthrie, Woody’s daughter, to tour the Guthrie archives, each of the four songwriters were offered the chance to plumb and mine the plethora of notebooks, scratch pads, napkins, etc. for anything that might inspire them to lend their voices and give the words new life. “These guys worked on an amazing group of lyrics, much of it culled from Woody’s times in LA. Lyric wise, it’s a part of the story that is still mostly unknown. From Woody’s experiences on LA’s skid row to his later years in Topanga Canyon, they are uniquely intimate, and relate two distinctly emotional periods in his life.”

The album will be released on March 6, 2012 (next Tuesday) via Rounder Records. You can listen to the entire entire 12 track album over here at TeamCoco.com and catch them on tour, see the dates below the stream. After that, check out the video for ‘Talking Empty Bed Blues’.

February 24, 2012 in late night appearances, New Video Release, Now Stream This!, Performances

Check out psychedelic alt rock band, Dr. Dog’s latest appearance on Last Call with Carson Daly the other night. They are still in “promo mode” for their latest release of Be the Void. Get a gander at our review of the album over here.

Then, get a look and listen to a video for ‘That Old Black Hole,’ which isn’t that new, but we felt compelled to share it with you today because it really does showcase the band’s lyrical talents so well. If you listen carefully to ‘That Old Black Hole’ you will hear the fabulous poetry and grow a greater appreciation for the tune and possibly the band.

Finally, there is a new release of the video for ‘Warrior Man’ below:

NOW STREAM THIS! Islands – A Sleep & A Forgetting

February 14, 2012 in New Release Tuesday, Now Stream This!

Islands’ release today of A Sleep & A Forgetting is certainly the product of seasoned musicians. After the demise of a relationship, frontman, Thorburn wrote A Sleep & A Forgetting and recorded the entire album in less than two weeks. Another great release for Valentine’s Day, as Thorburn started writing the songs for this album on Valentine’s Day. You may notice Thorburn’s vocals change from track to track, but these contrasts are what make this album even more intriguing. And, while you may expect something louder, you’ll continue to get soft orchestral sounds combined with mellow cymbals and heavy piano. If you like the band Luna, you’ll enjoy Islands. Stream Islands entire album, A Sleep & A Forgetting, out on Anti, below.

NOW STREAM THIS! Deer Tick performs 100th Sleepover Show

February 8, 2012 in Now Stream This!, Performances

Deer Tick, Coachella 2010 Photo: Rock Cousteau

There have been 100 shows produced for Sleepover Shows and they are still going strong. Just like Rock Cousteau, they are thrilled to be able to bring you good music each week. They love meeting up with bands, finding interesting places to film, and sharing the videos with you.

This week, they met up with Deer Tick, who were stopping by to end a string of dates with The Felice Brothers. This Sleepover Show takes place in a lounge in a basement at the end of a stairway.

The band got right to business and started playing ‘These Old Shoes’ from War Elephant. After that, they performed one of their newer tracks off Divine Providence, ‘Main Street’.
