NOW STREAM THIS! Pond – Beard, Wives, Denim

May 15, 2012 in New Artist Intros, Now Stream This!

Take a dash of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, a pinch of White Denim, a smidge of Flaming Lips and sprinkle in some members from Tame Impala, and you get psychedelic Australian rockers, Pond. This band that hails from the Land Down Under has slipped under our radar for entirely way too long. While we have been exposed to them before, it just took a little nudge for us to share their latest release, Bear, Wives, Denim with you. Pond was formed in Perth, Western Australia in 2008 with members Nick Allbrook, Jay Watson and Joseph Ryan. After the success of Tame Impala’s 2010 breakthrough album, Innerspeaker, which shares three members with Pond, the album Beard, Wives, Denim was recorded and later released on March 2nd.  Get a listen to the album in its entirety below, and if you like it as much as we do, buy a copy for yourself here.

NEW ARTIST INTRO! Deep Time – ‘Clouds’

May 8, 2012 in New Artist Intros, Now Stream This!

Austin, TX band, Deep Time, (previously named YellowFever, but required to change their name due to “legal problems”) has captured our attention. The song hittin’ the rounds now is ‘Clouds,’ featured below. Deep Time is a pop/indie rock band that reminds us of Belle and Sebastian. ‘Clouds’ includes full-bodied harmonies and a thick bass that gently caresses your ears. Two other great tracks, ‘Bermuda Triangle’ and ‘If I Never Find My Way,’ were both published under their previous band name, YellowFever. Check out all their tunes below. Enjoy!

NEW ARTIST INTRO! yOya – Nothing to Die

January 12, 2012 in New Artist Intros, Now Stream This!

yOya, an alternative folk, electro, electroacoustic, electronic, folktronic, pop outfit from the City of Angels. That finds much of it’s inspiration from bands like, Animal Collective, Radiohead, The Dodos, Mgmt, Jeff Buckley, Deerhoof, Jack Conte, My Bloody Valentine, Paul Simon, and even, Joni Mitchell. We tend to hear a lot of Local Natives in their sound, so if you like Local Natives, you’ll definitely like yOya. Check out their album, Nothing to Die, below. January 6, 2012 in New Artist Intros, Now Stream This!

Ryan, who plays the black acid six strings and voice in The Cult of Dom Keller out of the UK, has come up with Cathode Ray Eyes, his “man one side project.”  It’s psychedelic journey to outer-space.  Well, maybe not that dramatic, but according to Ryan, “There are sounds in your head that need to get out.”  So, without further adieu, we present Cathode Ray Eyes.  Please be sure to check out his band, The Cult of Dom Keller and get a listen to our previous post about them here.

NEW ARTIST INTROS – Henry Wolfe – Linda Vista

January 2, 2012 in New Artist Intros

While we wouldn’t go so far as to call Henry Wolfe “rock” music, we feel like this is an artist you might not want to miss. This singer-songwriter released his debut full-length album, Linda Vista, in April 2011. We just got our sticky ears on this artist recently, thus why we are presenting it on the site today. The track ‘Someone Else’, recently used at the end of the film, Terri, kinda reminds us of an extremely toned-down Dr. Dog. Check out the video below.

NOW STREAM THIS! Aviation Orange performing for Musicians@Google

December 15, 2011 in New Artist Intros, New Video Release, Now Stream This!

We first learned about Brooklyn indie rockers THE AVIATION ORANGE while at CMJ in NYC this past October. They have skillful song writing, experimentation and perfect male and female vocals that combine to make this band capture your attention. East of Here, is their self-released EP that expresses hints of classic 80′s alt rock bands that include synth-pop songs that harken back to the days of New Order and The Cure, but also a bit of the Pixies.

NEW ARTIST INTRO! The Cult of Dom Keller EP3

December 12, 2011 in New Artist Intros, Now Stream This!

We are kicking ourselves for not bringing this EP to your attention sooner, but time, as always, ran away from us. We are pleased to introduce you to, The Cult of Dom Keller. We previously mentioned them in our Halloween post, but let us give you a proper introduction and tell you all about them. They are four guys from Nottingham, England that take you on a psychedelic journey to the depths of garage rock, blues & perhaps, gospel. We have been fans of theirs for over a year now and are excited to share their EP3 with you today. They most recently played in the States at the Austin Psych Fest 2011. If you like The Black Angels, you will adore The Cult of Dom Keller. Please support this band by donating on their bandcamp page so they can make their way back to the States sooner, rather than later!

NOW STREAM THIS! Diamond Rugs – ‘Christmas in a Chinese Restaurant’

December 5, 2011 in New Artist Intros, New Video Release, Now Stream This!

Diamond Rugs is a new band made up of members from various established bands. Ya got, John McCauley and Robbie Crowell from rock/punk/roots band Deer Tick, Ian Saint Pé of psychedelic/punk guys The Black Lips, Steve Berlin of Los Lobos, Hardy Morris of Dead Confederate, and Bryan Dufresne of Six Finger Satellite. The band is so fresh, they have never played a show yet, but they are scheduled to make their live debut before the end of the year 12/29 in Atlanta. An album has been recorded, due out in Spring 2012. Said album includes this fine nugget, ‘Christmas In A Chinese Restaurant.’ If you are looking for a sincere sentimental holiday song, this is not it. It made us snicker and should be coined as the greatest holiday song of all time! We won’t ruin it for you, but get a listen for yourself. We got the video below and the stream below that. Happy Holidays from RC!

NEW ARTIST INTRO – Friends

November 4, 2011 in New Artist Intros, New Video Release

Friends, based in Brooklyn, NY, have captured our attention today. Heard this band before, but this song caught me hook, line and sinker with the bass line. Strangely reminded of very early Duran Duran. The music video for ‘I’m His Girl,’ directed by Friends’ frontwoman Samantha Urbani and Aurora Halal, explores the the sights and sounds on the streets of NYC ’80s New York City. The song is funky and fun. Below that video is the video for ‘Friend Crush’. If you like Lykke Li, you will enjoy this band.
