NOW STREAM THIS! Real Estate Live @ Insound Studio Sessions

November 15, 2011 in New Video Release, Now Stream This!

There’s nothing quite as exciting as finding a band with a very fresh sound and that’s how we have felt about the band Real Estate. Since the 2011 release of their sophomore album, Days, there has been nothing but praise coming from this side of the table. So, when we stumbled upon the live recording for an Insound Session, we couldn’t help ourselves and thus, are sharing it with you. The band performed three tracks, ‘It’s Real’, ‘Green Aisles’ and ‘Municipality’. The band is presently touring and will be at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC this Wednesday, November 16th. Pick up the LP of the recording here.

NOW STREAM THIS! Cuckoo Chaos – White Horse Sessions: ‘Jesus Flag American Fish’

November 9, 2011 in New Video Release, Now Stream This!

Cuckoo Chaos describes themselves in part, as “the Richard Nixon of disco dancing.” We are enamoured by their energy and their exquisite attention to our need to get off our asses and dance. Hints of African tunes are woven throughout their music and frankly, we hope you enjoy their music as much as we do. If you like Vampire Weekend, you will enjoy this band, but do not get confused, they are NOT Vampire Weekend. We caught up with the drummer, Dave Mead, at CMJ and while we couldn’t catch their set at the festival, they were not remiss in grabbing our attention. Check out their White Horse Session below where they perform, ‘Jesus Flag American Fish’.

NOW STREAM THIS! 10 in 20: A Lexington Recording Project with Matt Duncan

November 9, 2011 in New Video Release, Now Stream This!

We previously introduced you to the 10 in 20: A Lexington Recording Project, where ten groups of established Lexington musicians each spend two days collaborating on an original track with fantastic producer, Duane Lundy at Shangri-la Studios. As a reminder, they employ an organic process which presents the artists’ distinctive songwriting and musical roots, while painting a broader creative landscape. Today, we bring you the second installment of another monthly song debut that will ultimately build up toward a vinyl album release in 2012. This second installment is with Matt Duncan, an artist that is both classically trained and inventively versatile. Matt has been an indie fan favorite in Lexington since 2006 and has played nearly every instrument for the infectious, multi-layered pop songs on his debut EP Beacon, and several of those tunes have recently graced network television show soundtracks (e.g., The Vampire Diaries, Private Practice, Bored to Death). For 10 in 20, Matt brings to Shangri-la Studios a pack of prominent local musicians who often share the stage and the road with him. Below is the video for the track, ‘All Sails’ and below the video is the track available for download. If you listen and enjoy, please consider donating to this fantastic project at their Bandcamp page.

NEW ARTIST INTRO – Ceasefire ‘This Love Will Tear Us Apart’

October 27, 2011 in New Artist Intros, Now Stream This!

Ceasefire, a California based band, has captured our attention with their first single, ‘This Love Will Tear Us Apart’. Yes, it’s a song title that reminds us of Joy Division, but this song sounds nothing like ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’. Known for their arresting vocal melodies and crafted guitar hooks, which can be described as combined music styles from new wave 80′s and 90′s with modern music. If you like Coldplay and U2, you will really enjoy this track. We look forward to their next single, ‘Heartache’, projected for release November 2011. Stream the track below & let us know what you think.

NOW STREAM THIS! Veronica Falls LP

October 12, 2011 in New Artist Intros, Now Stream This!

If you like the Pixies and what we like to call, dreamy surfer indie rock, you will love Veronica Falls. This Canadian band is worth a second look. Their long awaited self-titled debut contains just enough dark & haunting sounds with a dash of light indie rock. Veronica Falls is out via Slumberland Records. Get a listen to the album in its entirety, below. Then, check out the videos below the streaming audio.

NEW RELEASE TUESDAY! Bjork – Biophilia

October 11, 2011 in New Release Tuesday, Now Stream This!

Everyone’s favorite Icelandic pop princess, Björk, releases Biophilia today via Non. For more than two decades, Björk has been artistically creating music that does not fit neatly into any one genre or any one land. Björk took much effort in researching astrophysics, string theory, neurology, biology, before she came up with Biophilia. The album, written around themes of nature, science and humanity’s relationships to both, contains no guitar and no piano, but Björk’s voice is the consistently heard throughout. NPR’s First Listen is streaming the entire album and has a great article exploring the depths Biophilia’s birthing process. Click on the photo to be directed to the stream at NPR’s First Listen.
