Ryan Adams always keeps us guessing what he’ll come up with next. Is it Jam Bandy? Metal? What about country? Having recently been required to relearn music due to Ménière’s, he has come up with a record that is filled with soul, yet mellower than previous albums. In a few tunes, he relies upon the talents of his lovely bride, Mandy Moore and that of a friend, Norah Jones. The album also features the work of keyboardist, Benmont Tench, whom he borrows from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Ashes & Fire will be out via PAX-AM records on October 11, but until then, stream it below.
In anticipation of releasing T Bone Burnett Presents the Speaking Clock Revue – Live from the Beacon Theatre on October 18 via Shout! Factory, a live album documenting a benefit concert Burnett held at NYC’s Beacon Theatre to benefit the Participant Foundation, which supports the inclusion of music and arts education in public school systems, Shout! Factory has released one of the performances. My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, who appears on the album as Yim Yames due to complicated legal reasons, performs the song ‘Wonderful (The Way I Feel)’. Everyone’s favorite Icelandic pop princess, Björk, is ready to expose her latest project, Biophilia. As the picture indicates, she might just need a little hair relaxer, but this is the Björk we know and love. For more than two decades, Björk has been artistically creating music that does not fit neatly into any one genre or any one land. After researching astrophysics, string theory, neurology, biology, Björk came up with Biophilia, written around themes of nature, science and humanity’s relationships to both. Take note, there is no guitar and no piano on this album, but Björk’s voice is always at the heart of every track. NPR’s First Listen is streaming the entire album and has a great article exploring the depths Biophilia’s birthing process. Click on the photo to be directed to the stream at NPR’s First Listen.
