NEW ARTIST INTRO! My Pet Dragon with some lovin’ tunes

February 9, 2012 in New Artist Intros, Now Stream This!

With Valentine’s Day is just days away, but we thought this would be the best time to introduce you to My Pet Dragon. Straight out of Brooklyn, NY, My Pet Dragon is giving you your Valentine’s Day gift in advance, sharing five original songs aimed straight the heart. This Atmospheric Rock includes luscious melodies with layered vocals that can be compared best to Radiohead, U2, Coldplay and even a little Kings of Leon. Their tracks create exciting, musical textures that could easily be performed in a small venue or a large stadium. While it may not fall squarely into the rock category, it’s probably best to categorize their work as really well crafted and produced pop songs that can meander into the indie-influenced genre. All the songs included below are on their album (released August 2011) Mountains and Cities. Our favorites include ‘U R’, ‘Majestic Lovers’ and ‘Love Anthem’. Find your anthem song below!

NOW STREAM THIS! 10 in 20: A Lexington Recording Project with The Fanged Robot – ‘Let the Countdown Count Me’

January 12, 2012 in New Artist Intros, Now Stream This!

First, we gave you Coralee and The Townies. Then, we gave you Matt Duncan. We are now pleased to present you with the third installment to the 10 in 20: A Lexington Project, The Fanged Robot’s ‘Let the Countdown Count Me’. The Fanged Robot is Robby Cosenza. Cosenza is known as a drummer first and foremost, touring the US, Europe and Canada going on nineteen years now. The Fanged Robot began as an outlet for material not suited to Cosenza’s previous projects, including The Scourge Of The Sea, Tarbox Ramblers and most recently These United States.

Cosenza describes The Fanged Robot as “Golden slop-pop rock n roll, I think.” Spanning over a decade, the band has played hundreds of live shows in basements, barns and bars as a rotating cast of some fifty local and regional artists, including members of The Beatings, Nine Pound Hammer, Sunday Valley, and Vandaveer, to name a few. The past year’s line up lives as a duo with drummer Jason Clarkston. The Fanged Robot recently recorded its first full-length album with producer Duane Lundy, available mid-to-late 2012. Please support this project by making a donation, the artists will appreciate it!

What’s a 10 in 20, you ask? Well, ten groups of established Lexington musicians each spend two days collaborating on an original track with a fantastic producer, Duane Lundy at Shangri-la Studios. They employ an organic process which presents the artists’ distinctive songwriting and musical roots, while painting a broader creative landscape. Monthly debuts of new songs build toward a vinyl album release in 2012. The first installment of the 10 in 20 project is with Coralee and the Townies, as they perform, ‘ProfessionaLoner’. NEW RELEASE TUESDAY! Zola Jesus – Conatus

October 4, 2011 in New Release Tuesday, Now Stream This!

Zola Jesus, the stage name of Russian American singer/songwriter Nika Roza Danilova, creates cinematic and goth-inspired pop with arrangements that are larger than life. Strangely, we are reminded of Caleb Followill of Kings of Leon. Weird. You can listen to the entire album, Conatus, released today via Sacred Bones Records.

NEW RELEASE TUESDAY! Daryl Hall – Laughing Down Crying

September 27, 2011 in New Release Tuesday, Now Stream This!

Ahhh, remember the sounds of Daryl Hall & John Oates? Just recently we caught a glimpse of those earlier sounds from Daryl when watching a video of ‘Family Man’. Great song, but man, that video was VELVEETA. We are fortunate to fast forward to 2011 and see Daryl release a solo album entitled Laughing Down Crying. Yes, it’s a pop album, but by a very seasoned musician that deserves our attention. Check it out for yourself and tell us what you think.

NEW RELEASE TUESDAY! Dum Dum Girls – Only in Dreams

September 27, 2011 in New Release Tuesday, Now Stream This!

Dum Dum Girls (yeah, that’s their name) release Only in Dreams today via Sub Pop Records. If it’s possible, they carefully weave pop sounds of rock with lo-fi sounds & fuzzy guitars. We have been listening to a few singles from the LP for a while and have noticed a growth from their debut album.
