NEW ARTIST INTRO! Natives – ‘Loose Secrets’

May 9, 2012 in New Artist Intros

In addition to a few bands we have presented on our site from the 10 in 20: A Lexington Recording Project, we were just introduced to this band, Natives, that was also featured on Paste’s 10 Kentucky Bands You Should Listen to Now . Straight out of Louisville, Natives, a five-piece band comprised of Matt Filip, McKinley Moore, Drew English, Matt Brown and Jason Sparks, bring us noisy, psychedelic garage rock. The band released the five-track album, Loose Secrets, last August via Rad Tantrum Records. The album infuses sounds from ’60s garage rock that is reminiscent of The Stooges and The Velvet Underground. If you like Deer Tick and such, you will love, love, love this band. Check out the title track from the album, Loose Secrets, below.

NEW ARTIST INTRO! Acid Baby Jesus self-titled LP

February 13, 2012 in New Artist Intros, Now Stream This!

From Athens, Greece, we present, Acid Baby Jesus. The Acid Babies’ new self-titled LP is out since October on Slovenly Recordings. They toured in the States and we missed them in Miami, but hopefully, there will be another opportunity soon. For example, if you are lucky enough to get to the Austin Psych Fest this year, that’s where you can find them. If you like Jacuzzi Boys or Black Lips, this is a band for you. You want fuzz? They got fuzz! It’s definitely psychedelic/experimental/noise/garage/post-punk, so if you don’t even remotely like that genre, we highly recommend that you peruse another post, however, if you love psychedelic/experimental/noise/garage/post-punk, you will love this band.

NEWS YOU CAN USE! At The Drive-In Reunited

January 12, 2012 in News You Can Use, Now Stream This!

Rhetorical question of the day, Why did everyone go ape-shit when they found out that At The Drive-In was reuniting? We don’t have the answer, but we can certainly share the good news. ‘Relationship of Command’, released in 2000, was “THE” album for this band. Post-punk bands, like the Strokes, probably aspired to be a band like At The Drive-In, but couldn’t quite met their level of greatness. This band could be best described as a hybrid of prog and punk rock. Having them depart from the music scene was undeniably and woefully wrong. We are pleased that they will be performing at Coachella 2012 and hope to catch them when we are there. But, now (for reasons known only to the band) let’s all take comfort that they are back. Check out the song, ‘One Armed Scissor’ below and see/hear why everyone is so excited.

NEW ARTIST INTRO! Antenna Trash – DED comes for DED (EP)

September 15, 2011 in New Artist Intros

Early 2008, Antenna Trash formed in Italy as a punk-funk inspired band, but soon evolved into an hyperkinetic, noisy and freaky creature, combining live electronics with tribal grooves and sharp guitars. This emerging band has produced an EP, DED comes for DED that you can test drive below. We are hooked on Antenna Trash and think you will be, too.

NOW STREAM THIS! The Drums – Portamento

August 29, 2011 in Now Stream This!

Here’s an American Indie Pop (Post-Punk revival) band emerging from Brooklyn via Florida in 2009, The Drums initially caught the ear of the indie world with their Summertime! EP. The Drums upcoming sophmore LP, Portamento, is streaming over at 3VOOR12 SPELER. The album will be out on 9/13. We really enjoyed their set at Coachella 2011 and think you might enjoy their sound. Can’t really find any comparisons other than some alternative bands from the 80′s. We keep hearing Heaven 17, but there may be other comparisons you could make on your own.

Check out their video for ‘Money’ from the “to-be-released” album ‘Portamento’ out the 5th of Sept UK and 6th of Sept in the US. “I’d like to buy you something” (maybe even this album), “but I don’t have any money!”
